The company «Severnaya Verf», part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, announced the transfer to the Russian Navy of the corvette «Mercury» of project 20380.
«Mercury» is the fifth corvette built at the «Severnaya Verf» according to project 20380, developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau «Almaz». The previous four corvettes - «Steregushchiy», «Soobrazitelny», «Stoykiy» and «Boykiy» - are based at the Baltic fleet.
Multipurpose corvettes of project 20380 are designed for the detection and destruction of enemy submarines and surface ships, the provision of landing forces. The ships carry artillery, missile defense, anti-submarine, hydroacoustic and radar systems, and also have a hangar for Su-27 helicopter.
