The Severnaya Verf enterprise, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, announced the transfer of the Mercury corvette of Project 20380 to the Russian Navy.
The Mercury is the fifth corvette built at the Severnaya Verf under Project 20380, developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The previous four corvettes – the Steregushchiy, Soobrazitelnyy, Stoykiy, and Boykiy – are based in the Baltic Fleet.
The multipurpose corvettes of Project 20380 are designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, and to support amphibious landings. The ships are equipped with artillery, anti-missile, anti-submarine, sonar, and radar systems, and also have a hangar for a Ka-27 helicopter.
