Deputy and head of the "A Just Russia – For Truth" party, Sergey Mironov, made an interesting statement today: he proposed launching the "People's Car" national project in Russia, within the framework of which a domestic car affordable for everyone would be created – at a price of about 500,000 rubles.
«New car sales are gradually increasing, but prices are not decreasing, and something tells me they will only rise. And even if the problem of scarcity disappears, it doesn't seem like affordable models will return to the market. This means that the problem of the aging car fleet, which is already beginning to affect accident rates, will continue to grow exponentially. There is only one solution – our country needs a \"people's car\" that meets modern basic requirements for safety and comfort,» he said.
The deputy even cited the characteristics of a hypothetical car: it should have a 1.5-liter engine with a capacity of 100-120 hp, a manual transmission, high ground clearance, two airbags, air conditioning, ABS and ESC systems, as well as the ERA-GLONASS complex. In other words, Sergey Mironov described something like the current Lada Granta, but with a pre-crisis price.
«Of course, such a car will only be popular if the price is affordable – about 500 thousand rubles, and this will only be possible thanks to strong government support. This means that a special national project is needed. Otherwise, we are doomed to an aging car fleet, increased deaths and injuries on the roads,» the parliamentarian concluded.
