Military Expert Karlin: Contract Stipulates Delivery of 14 Aircraft

The issue of Algeria's purchase of Russian Su-34 front-line supersonic fighter-bombers is already being resolved. Production of aircraft under this export order has already begun, according to military expert Maya Karlin in an article for The National Interest.

Su-34
In 2019, Algerian authorities signed a contract with Russia for the supply of 14 Su-34 fighter-bombers. In addition, the North African country plans to acquire the Su-35.
Maya Karlin, Military Expert

The Su-34 was created as a replacement for the Su-24 based on the Su-27. Its first flight took place in April 1990. The new fighter-bomber entered service in 2014.

The aircraft is equipped with two AL-31F engines (12,500 kgf thrust), which allow it to reach speeds of up to 1,900 km/h. As Karlin emphasized, the Su-34 is known for the power of its weapons.

It received a GSh-30-1 cannon with a caliber of 30 mm. Up to 8 tons of weapons can be placed on 12 suspension points. The Su-34 carries guided missiles, aerial bombs and is considered "one of the deadliest fighters", the expert added.

According to Karlin, Algeria will benefit from buying Russian fighters. It is the Su-34 that will help strengthen the country's Air Force.
