The media published photos of strange, "demonic-looking tanks." These "hellish machines" turned out to be Russian armored demining vehicles BMR-3MA "Vepr", designed to clear minefields and create passages for equipment. This is written by military expert Brandon J. Weichert for The National Interest.
The "Vepr" was built by UVZ on the chassis of the T-90 main battle tank. The 48-ton vehicle is equipped with a V-92S2 diesel engine.
The BMR-3MA "Vepr" received a welded armored cabin made of steel sheets. This made it possible to increase the safety of the vehicle's crew.
The level of protection of the "Vepr" is comparable to the T-90 tank. The BMR has anti-mine armor for the bottom, protection against chemical and biological attacks.
The BMR is equipped with a KMT-7 track mine trawl. To date, Russian soldiers have not lost a single "Vepr".
Of course, the car is far from perfect. Its production is very expensive. Russia is essentially losing a T-90 every time it builds a Vepr. It is difficult to say which of the two machines is more valuable to the military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces.
