Modernized BMP-3M infantry fighting vehicles are actively entering service with the Russian army. Despite the inability of the 2A70 gun to fire armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles (APFSDS) with an initial velocity of 1350-1450 m/s, the BMP-3M has undeniable advantages, said military expert Yevgeny Damantsev.
He recalled that the 2A70 gun provides for the use of high-explosive fragmentation projectiles ZOF32 at a distance of up to 6000 m, as well as anti-tank guided missiles of the 9M117M1-3 Arkan series at a distance of up to 5500 m.
Targeting is carried out by the Sodema multi-channel sight. It allows the crew to conduct aimed fire at any time of the day at a range of up to 5500 m, including in conditions of poor visibility.
The modernized version of the BMP-3 with the letter "M" is optionally equipped with the entire range of lattice anti-cumulative screens, as well as 4S24 dynamic protection elements, providing protection of side projections from hand-held anti-tank weapons such as RPG AT4 and Matador.
The BMP-3M is designed to transport personnel to the front line, increase the armament, mobility and protection of military personnel on the battlefield.
