To effectively repel attacks by the American ATACMS Block I missile, it is necessary to revise the location of the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to cover positional areas. This opinion was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He drew attention to one episode in which the ATACMS missile could overcome the anti-missile barrier through the "dead funnel" present in the upper hemisphere above the 92N6 radar - a 40-degree sector outside the radiation pattern of the radar station.
Therefore, all strategically important regions should be covered not by single divisions, but by S-400 anti-aircraft missile regiments and brigades, where the positions of each division are no more than 35-45 km away from the positions of neighboring installations.
According to the analyst, this measure will allow divisions to mutually overlap "dead funnels" in the upper hemisphere. Damantsev emphasized that this concept is most optimal in relation to anti-aircraft missile systems, the elevation sectors of the illumination radars of which do not reach 90 degrees.
To prevent such strikes, it is necessary to timely detect M142 and M270 launchers with ATACMS Block I and Block IA missiles with a range of 165 and 300 km advancing to firing positions using infrared sensors of ZALA 421-16E and S350 "Supercam" UAVs. After that, target designation can be instantly issued to the Tornado-S MLRS for the use of 9M549 guided missiles with cluster warheads.
