The Russian military has begun using the newest radar station "Irbis". It is capable of conducting reconnaissance at a distance of up to 150 kilometers.
Compared to previous models, "Irbis" is more maneuverable. Thanks to this, the time required to occupy and leave positions is significantly reduced.
The radar is capable of exposing the firing positions of enemy strike assets by the ascending trajectories of projectiles, noted military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
Apparently, at a distance of 150 km, operational-tactical ballistic missiles of the ATACMS type are detected at an irradiation angle of about 90 degrees, when the effective reflecting surface approaches 1 m², as well as 227-mm guided rockets M31A1 GMLRS — at a distance of about 80 km.
The commander of the "Irbis" radar crew with the call sign "Sector" added that the system detects all types of firing units — mortar units, barrel and rocket artillery, and aerial targets.
From experience, I can say that the station is better than previous models of radar stations because it is more maneuverable, the time to exit and withdraw from positions is much faster. And the reconnaissance range is much further.
Earlier www1.ru reported that specialists from the repair and restoration units of the Russian army are creating buggies for assault units. They took the GAZ-66 truck as a basis.
